The Product Hunt Playbook: How Indian founders can win the West

Launching on Product Hunt is not just about getting a fancy badge. It is about getting global visibility. Here is a practical playbook for Indian founders.

Many Indian founders think Product Hunt is only for Silicon Valley startups with massive PR budgets. That is a myth. Some of the best AI tools launching right now are built by developers sitting in Bangalore, Pune, and Hyderabad.

But launching on Product Hunt requires a different mindset. You cannot just wake up, post your link at 12:01 AM Pacific Time, and pray. You need a proper playbook.

Step 1: Fix your landing page for a global audience

Before you even think about launching, look at your website. Is it loading in under 2 seconds? Are there any grammar mistakes? Western audiences are very particular about polish. If your UI looks cheap, they will bounce immediately. Use tools like Vercel to ensure your Next.js app is blazing fast.

Step 2: Find a Hunter

You can launch yourself, but it is always better to be 'hunted' by someone who has a good following on the platform. Reach out to them on Twitter. Don't send generic copy-paste DMs. Be honest: 'Hi, I am building an AI tool for X. I think the Product Hunt community will love it. Would you be interested in hunting it?'

Step 3: Prepare your launch assets

You need a killer tagline (60 characters max), a high-quality thumbnail image, and a short demo video (GIFs work great too). Your first comment on the launch day is critical. Tell the story of why you built it. People buy stories.

Step 4: The Launch Day Strategy

Launch day is a 24-hour sprint. You need to be online constantly. Reply to every single comment. If someone asks a question, reply within 5 minutes. This shows you are active and care about the community.

Do not buy fake upvotes. Product Hunt's algorithm is very smart and will shadowban your product. Instead, message your WhatsApp groups, Telegram communities, and email list. Ask them for 'honest feedback' on Product Hunt, not just an upvote. Real reviews matter.

Step 5: Leverage the traffic

If you hit the top 5, you will get thousands of visitors in a few hours. Make sure you capture their emails. Offer a free PDF, a checklist, or a discount code in exchange for their email. Most won't buy today, but they might buy next month.

Launching on Product Hunt is exhausting, but the global backlinks and SEO juice you get from it will help your AI tool rank on Google for months to come. Do the hard work.
